According to iGamingBusiness, total gross gambling revenue (GGR) across the EU and UK rose to €123.4 billion in 2024.
These numbers show a 5% increase from the previous year. The growth comes from the rise in online gambling and the stable land-based sector.
The data, released by the European Gaming and Betting Association in partnership with H2 Gambling Capital, reveals that 39% of Europe’s total gambling revenue came from online activity.
This share is expected to keep rising, with mobile now making up the majority of online play.
Casino Games Lead Online Growth
Online gambling revenue reached €47.9 billion, up 11.7% year-on-year. Casino games brought in the largest portion at €24.6 billion, followed by sports and event betting at €13.7 billion. Lotteries added another €7.1 billion, while poker and bingo made up smaller shares.
Mobile devices were the main access point for online gambling, generating 58% of the GGR, with desktop making up the remaining 42%. The data highlights a growing shift in how people engage with digital gambling products.
The land-based market also grew modestly, generating €75.5 billion in GGR - 61% of the total. Lotteries brought in €30.9 billion, while gaming machines and betting shops added €24.9 billion and €9.6 billion, respectively.
EGBA said this report helps improve transparency and support a more informed public policy debate. With digital growth showing no signs of slowing, the group expects online gambling to keep changing Europe’s gambling picture.
