According to Gambling Insider, the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has fined a licensed operator €734,000.

The operator received this fine after an investigation showed they failed to intervene in cases of excessive gambling. The investigation focused on 10 player accounts, where young adults between 18 and 23 lost substantial money.

The KSA found that the operator did not act on clear signs of risky gambling, even though the losses were in the tens of thousands of euros over short periods. Under Dutch law, gambling providers are required to act when there are signs of harmful behavior, particularly with vulnerable players.

Failure to protect young adults

The regulator stressed that the operator should have stepped in sooner, especially since the losses were large and repeated. By not intervening, the operator ignored its duty to protect players from gambling harm. Michel Groothuizen, Chair of the KSA, stressed the need for operators to take quick action in similar situations.

Due to current court proceedings, the KSA cannot release the name of the operator at this time. However, the authority will reveal the identity if it is allowed later in the legal process. The fine is a reminder that the KSA is focused on ensuring operators meet their duty of care obligations at all times.
