According to iGamingBusiness, Sweden’s Gambling Authority has fined Videoslots €1.1 million for failing to prevent excessive gambling.

The company was also warned for breaking Sweden’s duty of care rules under the Gambling Act. In 2024, Spelinspektionen started investigating Videoslots to ensure it followed Swedish rules made to protect players. After reviewing its processes, the regulator found that Videoslots hadn’t done enough to prevent excessive gambling by some players.

Insufficient efforts to curb excessive gambling

Spelinspektionen’s review revealed that while Videoslots employs an automated monitoring system to detect risky gambling behavior, it was slow to act when players showed signs of excessive gambling. The regulator found that some individuals had been gambling excessively for months before the company intervened.

Videoslots disagreed with the assessment, stating that the Gambling Act restricted access to player health and financial data, limiting its ability to process this information. Despite these claims, the company failed to prevent significant losses for these players.

The Swedish Gambling Authority also highlighted that five of the 12 flagged players were young, which made the case more serious, as vulnerable individuals need extra protection.

In response, Videoslots has improved its processes to better monitor and limit harmful gambling. The company’s quick response ultimately helped them avoid further regulatory actions, such as a license review.
