Popular musician Drake has been making headlines in recent months after being fully transparent with his gambling habits following the partnership with crypto operator Stake. After indulging in NBA, F1, and NFL wagers, Drake has reverted to his go-to betting sport UFC, and decided to place a wager valued at $250,000 in Bitcoin on Saturday’s UFC 296 match between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington.

According to a screenshot the rapper shared on his Instagram profile, the bet predicted Leon would knock out Covington for a potential payout of $1.2 million. Drake’s instinct was proven correct in picking the winner but not the method of victory.

Edwards won the fight through a decision, not by a KO. Leon took his time in the octagon and slowly picked apart his opponent without closing in for his recognizable grappling style. The hip-hop star is now down $250,000, but it’s not the first time Drake lost a big bet at Stake.

Bitcoin Stakes Endorse Crypto Gambling

The Canadian joined crypto casino Stake in December 2021 and makes bets with Bitcoin. Stake Casino and Drake have collaborated to create a new gaming experience for users through live-streaming events offering interactive connectivity for fans and users and a chance to win alongside the superstar.

Drake’s public association with one of the biggest crypto operators in the industry has brought additional legitimacy for Stake. It has improved visibility for this Bitcoin casino by tapping into Drake’s huge social media audience. Nearly all of Drake’s bets on the platform are in Bitcoin, providing additional endorsement for crypto betting.

The Drake Curse Myth Debunked

Since Drake started to make his gambling activities public, a trend has emerged better known as the ‘Drake curse’. The term refers to the bad luck the rapper brings to athletes or sports teams picked to win on a betting slip. Drake’s betting record is packed with losing wagers, especially on UFC fights. However, a closer look at this myth shows no statistical basis for the claim, considering only 31% of athletes and sports teams picked by Drake have lost their matches.

Some prominent losses include a $275,000 bet on Jorge Masvidal to beat Covington at UFC 272 in Las Vegas. Another $400,000 in Bitcoin was lost for picking Jake Paul to win by a KO against Tommy Fury earlier this year. Charles Oliveira’s win over Justin Gaethje cost Drake $427,000. Edwards was not jinxed by Drake betting on him to win. Although he tends to lose many crypto bets, the rapper can also brag about big wins, such as the million-dollar bet that Israel Adesanya would beat Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 in 2022.

Another win worth 23.7 Bitcoins arrived after the superstar rapper bet that the Kansas City Chiefs would win the Super Bowl back in February 2023. Drake is not discouraged by big losses, and will probably make headlines soon with another big Bitcoin bet.
