Wynn Resorts has allocated an additional $600 million for its Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in the United Arab Emirates, bringing the total project cost to approximately $5.7 billion. CEO Craig Billings said at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas that the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran delayed construction by only one day. The resort, which would be the first regulated casino in the Persian Gulf region, is now scheduled to open in September 2027.
The additional funding is intended to cover costs linked to the conflict involving Iran, including higher shipping and supply chain expenses, according to reports citing PokerNews.
Billings discussed the project at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas, where he appeared on a panel alongside MGM Resorts International CEO Bill Hornbuckle and Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg.
Additional Funds Cover Shipping and Supply Chain Expenses
The extra $600 million will cover conflict-related expenses, particularly increased shipping and supply chain costs, according to Billings’ remarks reported by PokerNews.
The new allocation raises the total cost of Wynn Al Marjan Island to approximately $5.7 billion as the company moves ahead with construction of the UAE resort.
One Day of Construction Lost After February Conflict
The project experienced a brief setback in February when the United States and Israel went to war with Iran. Construction was temporarily paused while Wynn Resorts monitored the situation.
Billings told the G2E audience that only one day of construction was missed. He said the emirates had done “an outstanding job on security” and that daily life in the UAE is “completely normal.”
Earlier in the year, concerns had focused on potential logistical and security challenges stemming from the conflict. Despite those concerns, construction has continued with minimal disruption.
Opening Date Pushed to September 2027
Wynn Al Marjan Island is now scheduled to open in September 2027, later than its previously planned opening in the first quarter of 2027.
This month, the resort also released new renderings of a yacht marina set to open alongside the property. Reports indicated that the marina will be the first private harbor in the country where superyachts of that size can directly access a resort’s services and amenities.
